Film language Analysis hwk

Watch the first six minutes and apply your knowledge of camera, sound, editing and mise en scene to textually analyse the clip and the meaning that it created. Consider: - the symbolism in a lot of the shots - sound / music, dialogue and sound effects - what is the clip saying about race, how? - what have these children seen that you wouldn't expect them to have seen at their age? - How does the shot go from street to classroom? - what are the pictures on the wall?

genre opening scene task- apply and distinct

for this task that we have been set, we have to watch a opening of a film and analyse the opening so that we have an idea of how a film opening should look.

Harry Brown:
This film is set in a south London underpass which is open to the public. it is about January time in the winter because everyone is wearing coats and jackets, they all have there hoods up but that isn't because it is cold that is so they can't be seen. they are in the under pass during the day and then they go out to the park while it is still light outside. the themes shown in this film are drugs as seen in the underpass, youth and youth violence shown by all of the characters by the way they act. evil over good and this is shown through them murdering an innocent mother who is walking her baby. key icons in this film are the drugs, the film is about drugs and gangs in London and the drugs is what they use that triggers them to do what they are doing. guns, the weapon to kill in this case to kill the innocent. masks, this isn't because they are cold this is because they don't want to be seen as they are all committing crimes. and finally the buggy, this is a key icon because it shows that there is a baby resting inside and it symbolises innocence. during the opening titles there is noise related to the gangs, this confuses the audience, the first picture shown is a London gang doing drugs and being violent, this issue that the audience already can see that trouble is happening and will continue to happen throughout. the gangs are filming what they are doing so it all comes from a gang members prospective. all of the characters are part of the gang except from the truck driver, mum and baby who are all innocent in the film. for the sound, it is a gang so it sounds violent also for every gun shot it plays music to make the shot more affective towards the audience and this is to show the pain of being threatened so it is from the mothers point of view.

Ghost ship:
This film is a horror film but it has got some different styles as shown form the opening scene for example the setting is on an Italian cruse liner, which is traveling across sea, it is at sea so if anything happens there is nowhere to go. the biased time period is 1900's. to open the film it starts under water and it shows the depth and darkness of the sea, it then shows the cruse ship and the cruse ship is lit up for now. the themes for this opening are horror, blood and the 1900's. the set to start with is a posh ballroom showing that the cruse ship isn't just any old crush ship it is an expansive cruse and it is shows how posh the cruse is by presenting the first scene as a ball room. also the ball room is split into two classes as wen this film was raised the social class was a big deal. when the lower class ball is shown a lonely little girl, the shot keeps on swapping form each ball room to show the classes and how each person acts.  the singer has relevance as she is creating the mood and atmosphere and she along with everyone else gets killed. the little girl has relevants as she is the last one alive.

audience

audience
who creates what we watch?
the media creates what we watch as they decide if the movie is worth watching or not. the audience are told what to watch and are told how god it is there for they decide to watch it and after make a proper judgement.

can the media exist without an audience?
the media with out an audience would not be media at all because the way that the media works is that they get the funding and the decisions and motivation from the audience so they are making sure it is entertaining by emphasising the false and blocking the truth.

can the media control and audience?
the audience chose what they want to read but if there is something that looks good to an audience the it will draw them in and that is what a audience look for and the media does, therefore the media controls what they think through what they say and the techniques to draw the audience in.

does the media control the audience or the audience control the media?
they don't control they sow and they expand on the false and block out the truth. so the media just tell an audience what they want to hear and the audience give the media attention.

semiotics analysing a film poster

Image result for finding nemo  this film poster if from the movie FINDING DORY
in this poster you can see the following things that tell you about the film:
the film is biased in the ocean, it is set in the ocean because nemo is a fish and just from the title you can see that nemo (the fish) is lost the movie writer may have chosen the ocean because it covers over 71% of the earths surface so you could easily get lost. another place that the film is set is Sydney you can see this from the Sydney opera house in the background so it shows that either that's where they live or that is where nemo ends up as he is lost. nemo is not in the picture as his father and dory (the clown fish and the blue fish) are in the centre so it shows that they are looking of nemo and have met some guests along the way. from the poster you can see all of the different animals that live in the ocean, and all the animals he has met along the way. the film looks friendly yet seems a bit dark and dangerous form the dark waters at the bottom of the poster with lots of dangerous animals such as jelly fish and eals, but also behind dory and marlin are bigger animals such as sharks and a whale so the bigger fish being behind marlin and dory shows that danger is right around the corner and that there are going to be some unexpected surprises along the journey of the film. the title of the film and the fonts used shows a lot of things about the film such as, under the word Nemo there is a line and that could represent a wave as the film is set in the ocean and in the O there is a picture of a fish and that fish is Nemo and this is affective because it shows that Nemo is still lost and he wont stop swimming until he finds home. the characters in the film are all different from scary to nice and you can see that from the facial expressions on the faces, as the page goes up it gets lighter and the animals get nicer and this is to show that the journey may get better.

Genre picture task

GENRE: horror
In this picture I resembled danger by showing a violent scene which in this case is a murder.
The body on the floor symbolises a murder that has just taken place, also in the picture there is a man walking away with a gun in his hand a gun automatically shows danger.
I chose the body because danger consists of either violence or disaster and for this picture I chose violence because to me danger is shown in this picture as death and murder and this picture to me
instantly shows that danger is upon the scene.

GENRE: MUSICAL
In this picture I used a piano to show a musical. I found it hard to show a musical in a picture because a musical is more audio. so to symbolise a musical I used a piano and a musical book to show that music was being played, the music being played was depressing music as shown from the black nails which represent the darkness of the song and the darkness in the room.
GENRE: ACTION
In this picture I resembled action by showing a violent scene which in this case is a shoot off.
I chose the setting and the props because it shows action in the scene. I got this inspiration from top gun as it shows violence and action. top gun also inspired me to get the audience involved and the gun creates a 3D vision of them getting shot there for it makes a scare and it also creates action for the audience as they can see that there is violence and an arising shooting.

film opening

I like this film opening because it bring light and joy to the film before the main events.
This shows that the film is about family and the wild just from the first scene.
The genre is coming of age and a kids film, i think this because it shows the main character growing into a king (lion king) it is a meaningful film that touches my heart because of the way it flows and the way the film create emotion. It is a kids film because it has a story to tell children which is to never give up!
